Join us in the beautiful village of Whistler in British Columbia, Canada,
for the 127th HHI Convention

By now I’m sure you’ve heard the news – the Vancouver Club is hosting the 127th Hoo-Hoo International Convention – and you’re invited! The west coast of Canada is renowned for its verdant rain forests—a bucket-list must see for anyone in the wood products/forest sector. In our rugged coastal forests you can stand beneath monumental trees hundreds of years old and reaching over 200 feet into the sky. We encourage you to stay a while, either before, or after the convention, and explore this unique part of the world.

On your way to Whistler, visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge park where a Treetop Adventure lets you walk in the canopy of Douglas-fir trees more than 100 feet tall. Our theme for this year’s event is a view from the top! Between tall trees and the height of Whistler Mountain – that’s what we promise to give you!

Whistler hit the world stage when it was host to the 2010 Olympic Games, drawing millions of tourists a year! The Club 48 board has been hard at work building a dynamic program to keep you entertained, with activities for everyone. Our younger board members are heading up a Guided Electric Bike Adventure Tour of the Whistler Valley. Although the bikes are electric assist, this event is definitely geared toward the outdoor enthusiasts and includes reservations at Whistler’s best patio afterwards, appetizers included! If sweating your way through the forest isn’t your thing, how about a spa day? Scandinave Spa Whistler offers a traditional Scandinavian baths experience in a peaceful and natural environment. The spa’s rustic installations are nestled on the edge of the Lost Lake Park where a spruce and cedar forest will both relax and invigorate you, and provide an escape from daily stress. Be ready to leave the noise behind, this is a silent retreat – that means “shhh!” no talking!

Rameses Jim Spiers will be on hand at the Conference to present 'Hoo Hoo 101 - The history and traditions of Hoo Hoo’. And, Club 48 President, Stirling Angus, and his wife Christina Rupp will host group activities that include a tour of a log sort yard in Squamish (south of Whistler), where you can get up close and personal with our massive timber all set against a back drop of rock. Evening functions include dinner under the stars at the North Arm Farm in Pemberton, a village just north of Whistler nestled at the foot of majestic Mt Currie. Friday night we will proudly show you Evans Lake Camp. Our club has been the major supporter of Evans Lake for 60 years. Enjoy the view, swim in the lake, and participate in our fundraising auction while we cook up a feast at the BBQ.

Jack Miller, our esteemed Snark of the Universe, was with us in Vancouver in May for our annual Members’ Night. While he was here, we took the opportunity to visit the Westin Resort and Spa in Whistler, where we are hosting the 2019 International Conference. The hotel is world class, and the Westin is giving our club amazing rates for the convention. You can’t beat these prices anywhere in the Village.

On behalf of our President, Stirling Angus, we once again invite you to Whistler, where Hoo-Hoo International will bear witness to the Embalming of the Snark, and Club 48 will usher in Matthew Burke as our new president! Until then, HH&LL!
